Proposal Summary
To use QIIME 2 as an on-ramp to scientific computing for Native American students by engaging locally with schools primarily serving Native Americans, while expanding the global QIIME2 user, developer, and educator communities.
QIIME 2
QIIME 2 is the premier software platform for microbiome research. In addition to our focus on building excellent software for microbiome research, a focus of QIIME 2 has always been to support diversity and inclusion in microbiome research and bioinformatics. This proposal aims to develop a workshop introducing open source scientific computing geared toward Native American students. QIIME 2 will be used as an illustrative project in these workshops focused on building excitement around training and careers in scientific computing. Additionally, this work will develop and host a two-track scientific computing event at Northern Arizona University that will have overlapping and independent sessions.
