A computational neuroscientist and product leader, Justin has spent his career building open source software and open data for science. Over seven years at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, he led product for open source tools including starfish, cellxgene, and napari hub. Through the napari hub he grew the plugin ecosystem through developer partnerships and micro-grant programs. As Product Lead for Imaging, he oversaw CZI’s portfolio of open source microscopy software, then built its competitive intelligence function for AI and biology. Prior to CZI, he was a Scientist at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where he helped launch a partnership with the AWS Open Data program to make Brain Observatory data freely available. He now runs Pulsatance, a consultancy that helps mission-driven organizations adopt AI, and builds bio.rodeo, an index that scores biological foundation models on how open they are. Justin holds a PhD in Computational Neuroscience from the University of California San Diego, where he was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Arizona State University.
